Nisei male. February 17, 1910, in Bellevue, Washington. During World War II, incarcerated at the Pinedale Assembly Center, California, and Tule Lake concentration camp, California. Prior to the war, family was part of a Japanese American "Eastside" community that cleared and farmed a large portion of what is now the Bellevue-Kirkland-Redmond area.

Nisei female. Born April 6, 1932, in Bainbridge Island, Washington. Grew up on Bainbridge, and was eight years old when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Removed with family to the Manzanar concentration camp, California. Before the war was over, moved to Chicago, Illinois. Returned to Bainbridge Island after World War II.

Nisei male. Born February 25, 1922, in Fresno, California. Grew up in Fresno, where parents ran several retail stores. During World War II, removed to the Fresno Assembly Center, California, and the Gila River concentration camp, Arizona. After leaving camp, graduated from the Missouri School of Mines. Returned to Fresno after World War II.

Nisei female. Born February 28, 1930, in Portland, Oregon. After losing mother at age two, went to live with a Swedish family until age nine. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, removed to the Portland Assembly Center, Oregon, and the Minidoka concentration camp, Idaho. Returned to Portland to finish school following World War II.

Nisei female. Born July 7, 1939, in Sparks, Nevada. Grew up in Sparks, where father worked as a machinist for the Southern Pacific Railroad for twenty-two years. In February 1942, father was fired from his job. Over forty years later, Ms. Shimada fought successfully for redress for the fired railroad workers and their families.

Nisei female. Born January 17, 1939, in Los Angeles, California. Given up for adoption after birth, and placed in the Shonien orphange in Los Angeles. After World War II broke out, removed to the Children's Village in Manzanar. Left camp to live with a foster mother in Los Angeles, eventually becoming a registered nurse.

Nisei male. Born October 25, 1923, in Watsonville, California. Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, removed to the Salinas Assembly Center, California, and the Poston concentration camp, Arizona. Volunteered for the military out of Poston, and joined the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Europe as a replacement troop. Following military service, returned to Watsonville.

Nisei female. Born November 21, 1921, in Watsonville, California. Grew up in Watsonville, where family operated a truck farm. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, removed to the Salinas Assembly Center, California, and the Poston concentration camp, Arizona. Lived for a time in Texas while husband served in the military before eventually returning to Watsonville.

Nisei male. Born October 1, 1918, in Southern California. During World War II, removed to the Gila River concentration camp, Arizona. Joined the Military Intelligence Service and served with the Dixie Mission, a U.S. Army Observation Group, a U.S. effort to establish official relations with the Communist Party of China and the People's Liberation Army.

Nisei male. Born December 13, 1920, in Honolulu, Hawaii. During World War II, was a member of the Varsity Victory Volunteers, then served with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service. Following military service, graduated from Yale Law School and became an attorney in Hawaii. Active in community and veterans organizations.

Nisei female. Born April 25, 1926, in Vancouver, Washington. Grew up in Vancouver where parents ran a farm. During World War II, removed to the Portland Assembly Center, Oregon, and the Minidoka concentration camp, Idaho. After leaving camp, moved to New York City to attend a fashion design school. Eventually resettled in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Nisei male. Born July 24, 1925, in Ketchikan, Alaska. Grew up in Ketchikan, where parents ran a store. During World War II, was removed to the Puyallup Assembly Center, Washington, and the Minidoka concentration camp, Idaho. After leaving camp, went with family to work for a time in Idaho before eventually returning to Ketchikan.

Nisei male. Born January 14, 1931, in Los Angeles, California. Grew up in Azusa, California, where parents ran a farm. During World War II, removed to the Pomona Assembly Center, California, and the Heart Mountain concentration camp, Wyoming, and Gila River concentration camp, Arizona. Returned to Azusa after leaving camp worked for the Forest Service.

Nisei male. Born July 12, 1930, in Redlands, California. Spend childhood in Redlands before Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During World War II, removed with family to the Poston concentration camp, Arizona. After leaving camp, returned to Redlands and continued school. Served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Nisei female. Born April 23, 1924, in Baldwin Park, California. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, moved with sister to New York under sponsorship of uncle to avoid incarceration. Attended school in New York before marrying and eventually returning to California. Active in numerous community and social service organizations in the Los Angeles area.

Nisei male. Born December 22, 1917, in Torrance, California. Grew up in the Los Angeles area where parents ran a farm. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, family decided to "voluntarily evacuate" to Colorado in order to avoid mass removal. Farmed in Colorado during the war years, and returned to Los Angeles in 1945.

Nisei female. Born March 30, 1928, in San Jose, California. Prior to World War II, sent by father to live in Japan with relatives. Remained in Japan during the war, attending school and working in an airplane parts factory to support the Japanese war effort. Eventually returned to the United States and San Jose.

Nisei male. Born in Los Angeles, California. Grew up in the Los Angeles area. During World War II, was removed to the Manzanar concentration camp, California. After leaving camp, lived in Sawtelle, California, for a time before being drafted in the army and serving in Korea. Lived in Arizona and Nevada after the war.

Nisei male. Born April 9, 1915, in Troutdale, Oregon. Grew up in several areas in Oregon where parents ran a farm. Started a grocery business before World War II. During the war, removed to the Portland Assembly Center, Oregon, and the Minidoka concentration camp, Idaho. After leaving camp, returned to Oregon and reestablished grocery business.

Nisei male. Born July 28, 1930, in Portland, Oregon. Grew up in Portland, where father worked for the railroad and then as an apartment building owner. During World War II, removed to the Portland Assembly Center, Oregon, and the Minidoka concentration camp, Idaho. After leaving camp, returned to Portland, completed school, and became a pharmacist.

Nisei male. Born March 26, 1933, in Sacramento, California. Grew up in Sacramento where father was a migrant farm laborer. During World War II, removed to the Marysville Assembly Center, California, and the Tule Lake concentration camp, California. Transferred with family to the Heart Mountain concentration camp, Wyoming. Returned to California after the war.

Nisei male. Born April 13, 1925, in Galt, California. Grew up in Hollister, California. During World War II, removed to the Salinas Assembly Center, California, and the Poston concentration camp, Arizona. Drafted into the military and served with the Counterintelligence Corps in Japan during the U.S. occupation. After service, joined family in Ontario, Oregon.

Nisei male. Born April 23, 1920, in Thomas, Washington. Grew up in Thomas where father ran a general store. During World War II, removed to the Pinedale Assembly Center, California, and the Tule Lake concentration camp, California. Left camp to work in Weiser, Idaho, and opened a service station. Eventually moved to Ontario, Oregon.
