Sansei male. Born in April 23, 1938, in San Francisco, California. Spent first few years in San Francisco where parents were farming. During World War II, removed with family to the Salinas Assembly Center, California, and the Poston concentration camp, Arizona. After the war, returned to California and Hirotoshi attended school and eventually the University of California at Berkeley. Earned a PhD in biochemistry and worked in the pharmaceutical industry. Later became involved with the Japanese American Citizens League.
