Caption on reverse [translation]: "December 20, 1936. South Pole expedition 25th anniversary ceremony. A ceremony for the 25th anniversary of the South Pole expedition as held on the 20th from 1:00 p.m. at a park on the Shibaura coastal road in Tokyo. The committee chairperson, vice-chairperson Yujiro Miyake, the former captain of the South Pole expedition, Nobu Shirase, 76, and others involved with the expedition gathered at the event. First the unveiling ceremony for the monument was performed by Fumio Asakura, and then a memorial service for the dead was carried out. The picture is Chairman Miyake greeting the event's attendees."
