Caption on reverse [translation]: "Hideko Maehata. Wakayama. 1. Swimmer; 2. Hashimoto-cho, Wakayama prefecture; 3. Born in 1913; 4. Finished 12th grade at Nagoya high school; 5. Nagoya city, Higashi-ku; 6. [. . .]; 7. She was born the daughter of a tofu store owner. She already made her mark as a swimmer in elementary school. In 1929, she came to Hawaii and broke many Japanese records. She and Miss Yoshiko Kato are the future stars of the swimming world. She is known as a dutiful daughter to her parents."
