DESCRIPTION

Caption on reverse [translation]: "Painter Gyokudo's pupils dedicating 144 pieces
January 27, 1940. Kodama, Nagano, Sasaki, Matsumoto, Imanaka, Ishiwatari, Isobe, and 113 other pupils of Gyokudo Kawai, the painting circle's elder, were working on consolation for the Army and Navy forces. However, Mr. Kawai has completed 144 great pieces. From 1 p.m. on the 27th, he held a preview at Kanda and dedicated 114 pieces to the Army and 30 to the Navy. The photo is Gyokudo and his paintings."
