Caption on front [translation]: "Clearing checkered fate. Yone Oishi Tsumakichi. In [?], [?] miles from Mount [?] of Osaka, Yone Oishi, also known as Tsumakichi Matsukawaya, is living as the survivor of the murder of six at Horie, her arms cut off by her father-in-law. She is clearing her checkered fate -- no, maybe that is still her fate -- and her hobbies, waka, [?] and [?], helps her live. 'If that incident had not happened to me, my name, Tsumakichi, wouldn't be famous. My body now is inconvenient, but because of this I can do [?] and waka, and the Tsumakichi name helps me to live. I am going to publish an autobiography without a proper education, but if that incident did not happen to me I would die as a nameless geiko. However, I am absolutely angry that I need help every morning with everything. If I am getting angry the people who help me feel bad. Moreover, food [?]. I am very thankful.'"
