Caption on reverse [translation]: "'Parachute that did not open' trial. November 21, 1937. When a test to establish the minimum dive world record was conducted with a Nonaka-style parachute, Seizo Higo (18 at the time) died because the parachute did not open. This incident has become known as 'the parachute that did not open,' and the investigator and also creator, Shoji Nonaka (57), entered a plea for involuntary manslaughter. The trial for Shoji Nomura was held at 11 a.m. on the 22nd at the Tokyo Courthouse, No. 1 courtroom, by Chief Justice Miyake and prosecutor Oba. The photo shows Colonel Murakami, Mr. Nonaka and attorney Watanabe, from right."
