Caption on reverse [translation]: "Domei photo, National News, No. 416. Pole-vaulter Nishida called. (Tokyo) August 23, 1938. World-famous Nishida received a call, and he is going to join the army as an engineer, with a pickaxe instead of a pole. Mr. Nishida worked in a division at Hitachi. While he worked there he practiced everything for the track and field competition that will be held this fall. His call came at that time, and he said, 'I am very nervous, more than when I went to the Olympics, but I will do my best for the country.' The photo is Mr. Nishida, who received the call."
