Caption on reverse [translation]: "Sogo photo, 2nd publication. December 11, 1930. First Order of Merit presentation ceremony held. The Emperor came to the Hoo room in his palace on the 11th at 10:30 a.m. The temporary proxy of Prime Minister Hamaguchi, and the President of the Decoration Bureau and others, attended the ceremony for the presentation of this decoration. The decoration was given to Makino, Supreme Court President. By the temporary proxy of Prime Minister Hamaguchi, the following decorations were awarded:
Supreme Court President Judge, Third Order, Second Class, First Order of Merit. The picture is Kikunozuke Makino on his way home with the First Order of Merit."
