By World War I, Japanese American farmers occupied 70 percent of the stalls at the Public Market. They continued to be an economic force until they were incarcerated during World War II. Left to right: Kiyoto Hashimoto, Tame Kamada, and Takayoshi Suguro. The Public Market is also known as the Farmers' Market and the Pike Place Market.
