Nisei soldier's caption: Mule skinners. Charlie Co. were really in the hills. All supplies being brought up by mules went up to operate our radio and lead one of these critters. But halfway up I had the mule drag me. Lucky that my animal was tame enough not to mind.

The C.P. was shelled so moved to the Astoria Hotel. We had defensive positions here facing some fascist divisions. The rest of the 442nd came down and joined us here …

Nisei soldier's caption: Barb wire barricade, Menton Beach. Center hill German held. At first we walked around the beach but later German shelled so we couldn't. Mines were all over the place. A British warship shelled the Pistant Hills periodically.
