Nisei male. Born December 10, 1931, in Guadalupe, California. Grew up in Santa Monica, California, where father was a fisherman. Family moved to Terminal Island, California, just before World War II. During the war, removed to the Manzanar concentration camp, California. Served in the navy during the Korean War. The family's wartime experiences were chronicled in a well-known book which was later adapted into a film, Farewell to Manzanar.
