Shiuko Sakai Collection

Black and white photographic print of bridge in front of Shiuko Sakai’s previous childhood residence. This is where Shiuko Sakai lived in 1930 at age seven. To walk to her aunt’s house she would cross bridge, climb hill, and then descend. Shiuko Sakai's family home had a shop on first floor that sold souvenirs to tourists, and living quarters on the second floor. The living quarters had tatami mat flooring, and at night they would take out futon bedding from closet and slept on the floor.
