Blaisdell (seated left), a former athletic coach and all-around athlete himself, is shown signing a proclamation designating the week of June 18 to 25 as Olympic Week and calling upon the residents of the City to participate in the drive to raise funds to send our American athletes to the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. Seated right is City-County Sheriff Duke P. Kahanamoku, 1912 Olympics 100-meter freestyle (63.4 sec.) and 1920 Olympics 100-meter freestyle (61.4 sec.) spring champion and recently honored as an official guest of the Australian Olympic Organizing committee at the 1956 Olympics.
