Caption on reverse [translation]: "(Tokyo) July 30, 1937. Captain Paul Wenneker, who has served as naval attache to the German embassy for three years, seven months, will depart from Yokohama on the 31st to begin a bright future as captain of the famous pocket battleship Deutschland. He will be replaced by Captain Richman. Wenneker visited the Ministry of the Navy at 10 a.m. on the 30th to give his farewell where he was presented with the Order of the Sacred Treasure, 3rd Class by Minister Yonai. He also received a vase from His Highness Naval Chief of Staff Prince Fushimi with the prince's crest on it and an old warrior's helmet from the minister, which he accepted quite gladly.
