Caption on reverse: "German U-boat hero lost: Commander Guenther Prien, who astounded the world in the early months of the war during the latter part of 1939 when he sneaked his submarine into Scapa Flow, base of the British grand fleet north of Scotland, and sank the battleship Royal Oaks, is now considered lost by Germany because of failure of his U-boat to return from its last operations. Prien is shown at left in German navy uniform. - Domei photo. May 23, 1941."
