Caption on reverse: "President honors U.S. naval hero through son. President Franklin D. Roosevelt awards the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumoushly to Rear Admiral Daniel J. Callaghan of the U.S. Navy, who lost his life in the Americal naval victory over the Japanese in the Solomon Islands in November. Admiral Callaghan's son, Lieut. Daniel J. Callaghan, Jr., of the Navy is shown receiving the award from the President at the White House in Washington on behalf of his family."
