Caption on reverse: "Brig. Gen. Clark L. Ruffner, deputy chief of staff for operations on the staff of Lt. Gen. Robert C. Richardson, Jr., commanding general of army troops in the Central Pacific area, is shown in a picture taken just after his promotion from the rank of colonel. Gen. Ruffner served with several cavalry units in the southwest United STates, the 1st Cavalry Division, and the VII Corps, whenit was stationed at Jacksonville, Fla., and San Jose, Calif.
