Caption on reverse [translation]: "German Ambassador Presents His Credentials. (Tokyo) April 28, 1938. New German Ambassador Eugen Ott visited the palace accompanied by a squad of guards at 9:30 a.m. on the 28th and saw His Majesty the Emperor at 10 a.m. in the Phoenix Hall and presented his credentials. He was in full court dress and wore the Order of the Sacred Treasure, 2nd Class that he had previously received. Photograph: The ambassador and his wife visiting the palace."
