DESCRIPTION
May Minami was born on January 26, 1914, in Oxnard, California. She grew up in Gardena, California, where her father was the first person to sell insurance to other Japanese community members. During WWII, her parents were arrested by the FBI and the family was sent to the concentration camp at Rohwer, Arkansas. When she returned to Gardena after the war, her husband opened a sporting goods store in Gardena where she worked for twenty-five years.
This interview is part of the South Bay History Project created by the South Bay Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League.
