DESCRIPTION
Midori Kamei was born on July 21, 1923, in Redondo Beach, California. She grew up in North Torrance where her parents farmed. Kamei was imprisoned briefly with her family at the Santa Anita Race Track in California and at the concentration camp at Heart Mountain, Wyoming. Kamei left Heart Mountain to attend college in Colorado. She later earned a master's degree from Columbia University in New York City. After the war, she remained active with Asian American community and political organizations.
