Thomas & Agnes Rockrise Collection

A letter written by Lorimer Rich and notarized by Frances M. Englander states that verifies the identity of George T. Rockrise. George at the time was trying to join the armed forces and realized that the legal name on his birth certificate did not match the name he had gone by his whole life. In this letter Rich states that the birth certificate listed the family's Japanese last name Tsumanuma instead of the anglicized Rockrise. Rich affirms that George's father, Thomas, used both names, but more often went by Rockrise in his business and casual life because it was easier to for English speakers to pronounce. Rich goes on to profess that therefor George Tsumanuma is the same person as George Rockrise.
