The Uyeda Groves collection, 1900s-1950s, features photographs of the Uyeda family, who resided in Hiroshima, Japan, Rock Springs, Wyoming and Seattle, Washington. The collection also includes photographs of Minidoka concentration camp and Seattle's postwar Issei community. The collection donor, Fumiko Uyeda Groves, was interviewed by Densho in 1998.

This photo shows Masajiro Uyeda and his son Yoichi. Masajiro immigrated from Japan to Vancouver, BC in 1900 and eventually made his way to Rock Springs, Wyoming where he worked as a coal miner. His other sons joined him in 1912. (L to R): Photographer, Masajiro Uyeda, Yoichi Uyeda.

This pool hall was owned and managed by Masato Uyeda (left). Masato immigrated to the US in 1912 and worked in the coal mines and on the railroad before opening this pool hall.
