Alameda Japanese American History Project: Family and Community Collection

Caption below photo: The Official California Alameda Japanese Elementary School, at 2256 Pacific Avenue. The school began in 1916. Takuritsu Morita arrived in the Oakland area by 1915 and would live in Alameda by about 1919, possible earlier. Makoto "Henry" Takagi was born in 1900. Based on his appearance this could be 1916 or 1917. if so its the earliest class photo that exists of the school. The building would also house the Alameda Japanese Associations.
