    "title": "Densho Legacy Archive Collection",
    "description": "The Densho Legacy Archive is a physical collection housed on-site at the Densho offices in Seattle. The collection is comprised of institutional records that cover the period from Densho’s conceptualization as the Densho Legacy Project to the present day as a digital repository. 150 photographs from this collection have been published in the Densho Digital Repository. These records include paper material which make up the bulk of this collection and several other record types such as the remaining ~2000 photographs and objects such as cds, floppy disks, posters, and oversized design documents. The Densho Legacy Archive is a great resource for learning more about the institutional history of Densho, the work that Densho does, and the people that have worked for the organization. To view the collection, please contact [email protected] to schedule an appointment and for inquiries.",

    "bioghist": "Densho is a Seattle-based non-profit organization started in 1996, with the initial goal of documenting oral histories from Japanese Americans who were incarcerated during World War II. This evolved into a mission to educate, preserve, collaborate and inspire action for equity. Densho uses digital technology to preserve and make accessible primary source materials on the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans. We present these materials and related resources for their historic value and as a means of exploring issues of democracy, intolerance, wartime hysteria, civil rights and the responsibilities of citizenship in our increasingly global society.",
    "scopecontent": "The Densho Legacy Archive contains organizational records that tell the story of both Densho the organization and the people that have worked with and for Densho. For example, the archive contains numerous promotional pamphlets from Densho’s history, records from events hosted and attended by Densho, and records related to different parts of Densho’s mission such as educational material and oral history interview training and preparation documents. The collection also contains conceptual and founding documents for Densho, large amounts of organizational correspondence, and other records such as meeting minutes and planning documents. Since many of the processed records were from Tom Ikeda’s desk space, there are a great deal of notes written by Tom on various subjects, and many of the records are related to Tom’s job as Densho’s executive director or are from Tom’s perspective.\r\n\r\nThe Densho Legacy Archive consists of 12 carton sized boxes and one oversized records box, and the collection contains about 12 cubic feet of records. The paper records that were deemed important for preservation were rehoused into 4 acid free boxes and processed into labeled folders with folder level descriptions for the materials within. The rest of the collection consists of 6 boxes of unprocessed auction records from Densho’s early 2000s golf and general auction fundraisers, 2 boxes of unprocessed photos, and the oversized records box. The boxes of photos consist of approximately ~1500 photos related to Densho such as event pictures, staff photos, and photos from oral history interviews. These photos have not yet been rehoused and are not currently in photo sleeves.",
