Yoshiye's husband, Tetsu, built one of the only surviving piers in the earthquake and was called on to help redesign the pier.",

    "bioghist": "Yoshiye (Handa) Yasuda was born on August 26, 1934, in San Francisco, California. She grew up in San Francisco's Japantown neighborhood, where her father ran a carpentry business. During World War II, she was removed to the Tanforan Assembly Center, California, and the Topaz concentration camp, Utah. After leaving camp, she returned to San Francisco with her parents and finished high school. While still in school, Yoshiye worked for civil rights attorney Wayne Collins. Yoshiye attended college in San Diego and became an occupational therapist, working with various groups, including psychiatric and geriatric patients. In 1962 she married Tetsu Yasuda in New York. They moved to Bellevue, Washington in 1983. Tetsu Yasuda was born on January 11, 1927 in Washington and was removed to the Puyallup Assembly Center and Minidoka concentration camp. He returned to Seattle and graduated from Broadway High School.",
