            "title": "Takeharu Inouye Diary",
            "description": "Takeharu Inouye's first diary documents his family's forced move to the Sacramento Assembly Center, followed by their move to the Tule Lake concentration camp. Since his mother, Miyoe Inouye, was a teacher, thirteen-year-old Takeharu's diary focuses on his classes in the Japanese and American schools at Tule Lake. His struggles with his schoolwork, as well as his persistent headaches most likely caused by his need for glasses, led to his poor performance as a student and his fear of dishonoring his family. \r\n\r\nTakeharu recounts his experiences of exhaustion and sickness as a field worker, until the injuries of laborers led to the Tule Lake strike and the subsequent escalation of military presence. The laborers' demands for workers' insurance and higher wages led to the termination of their employment, and Takeharu was once again required to be a full time student. Takeharu noted that even though some of his friends' families were relocated to other camps, the Inouye family would be staying at Tule Lake, now designated for Japanese Americans with \"disloyal\" sentiments.",

            "title": "Takeharu Inouye Diary",
            "description": "In the second diary he kept in the camp at Tule Lake, Takeharu Inouye recounts his struggles with education and the boredom resulting from few recreational opportunities. Though he participated in several baseball games with his classmates, Takeharu spent the majority of his free time attending the movie showings that occurred daily or weekly throughout the camp. He attended the movies shown in English, since he did not know enough Japanese to understand the Japanese films that were also shown. \r\n\r\nAt the beginning of his sophomore school year, Takeharu began taking night classes in order to study more subjects and improve his grades. He preferred the night classes, as he was no longer embarrassingly the oldest student in classroom. He describes his weekly chores of cleaning his family's barrack, the monotonous food options, and the lack of hygiene possible due to occasional strikes in the coal mines. Takeharu consistently dwells on the uncertainty of his future, not knowing how long he would remain in Tule Lake.",

            "description": "In the final diary that Takeharu Inouye kept during his internment at Tule Lake, he includes descriptions of the movies he went to see daily, which served as his primary form of recreation. Takeharu also describes his feelings over succeeding and failing in his high school classes, since his friends would cheat off of his work, but he would be the one to get in trouble with strict teachers. He mentions more details concerning his family members, particularly his sisters Fumiko and Miyoko. The opinions of the Inouye siblings differed greatly from their parents, causing tension within the family and a rebellious streak in the teenagers. Takeharu briefly mentions the shock of hearing of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and speculates on Japan's strategy at the end of the war. His diary entries conclude with his father's return from work leave in Ogden, Utah.",
