Caption on reverse [translation]: "Haguroyama promoted to be Ozeki Champion. Haguroyama was promoted to be Ozeki by the recommendation of the Japan Sumo Association Ranking Assembly held on the 16th. Haguroyama's original address is Aza Haguro Matsunaga-mura, Nishikiyohara-gun in Niigata prefecture. His name is Masaji Kobayashi. He is 16 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighs ?? He had only six tournaments since his first in January 1935, swiftly promoted into the championship after becming a new Sekiwake during the summer tournament. His latest score is 11 wins and 4 losses, which gave him a sweeping push toward the goal. Photograph is of Haguroyama delivering good news on the phone."
