Caption by Homer Yasui: "Maybe at the school in Tsuyama, Okayama-ken, Japan, where [Shidzuyo] had also taught for a short time in 1910. This also looks like a girls' graduating class, but [Shidzuyo] and the other teachers are dressed differently."

Around then, Masuo [Yasui] was living in Portland at either the Japanese Methodist Mission or at the home of the Caucasian attorney, for whom he worked as a houseboy."

Saburo Miyake's textile factory. Caption by Homer Yasui: "A textile or weaving factory, with the relatives and workers inside the shop. I've always understood that Saburo's and [Shidzuyo Yasui]'s father, Ichiro, ran a fishnet making factory. On the machine just before it reaches the completed roll of fabric, the material does look like netting."
