Narrator Jiro Sugidono
Nisei male. Born October 25, 1923, in Watsonville, California. Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, removed to the Salinas Assembly Center, California, and the Poston concentration camp, Arizona. Volunteered for the military out of Poston, and joined the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Europe as a replacement troop. Following military service, returned to Watsonville.

Nisei female. Born November 21, 1921, in Watsonville, California. Grew up in Watsonville, where family operated a truck farm. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, removed to the Salinas Assembly Center, California, and the Poston concentration camp, Arizona. Lived for a time in Texas while husband served in the military before eventually returning to Watsonville.
Narrator Setsu Tsuboi Tanemura
Nisei female. Born February 28, 1930, in Portland, Oregon. After losing mother at age two, went to live with a Swedish family until age nine. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, removed to the Portland Assembly Center, Oregon, and the Minidoka concentration camp, Idaho. Returned to Portland to finish school following World War II.
Narrator Tak Yamashita
Nisei male. Born December 22, 1917, in Torrance, California. Grew up in the Los Angeles area where parents ran a farm. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, family decided to "voluntarily evacuate" to Colorado in order to avoid mass removal. Farmed in Colorado during the war years, and returned to Los Angeles in 1945.
Narrator Robert M. Wada
Nisei male. Born July 12, 1930, in Redlands, California. Spend childhood in Redlands before Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During World War II, removed with family to the Poston concentration camp, Arizona. After leaving camp, returned to Redlands and continued school. Served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Narrator Mary T. Karatsu
Nisei female. Born April 23, 1924, in Baldwin Park, California. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, moved with sister to New York under sponsorship of uncle to avoid incarceration. Attended school in New York before marrying and eventually returning to California. Active in numerous community and social service organizations in the Los Angeles area.

Nisei male. Born February 14, 1917, in San Francisco, California. Grew up in San Francisco and attended the University of California at Berkeley. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, removed to the Tanforan Assembly Center, California, and the Topaz concentration camp, Utah. Served in the Military Intelligence Service. After the war, resettled in New York.
Narrator Albert Bunji Ikeda
Sansei male. Born July 12, 1934, in Salinas, California. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, removed with family to the Salinas Assembly Center, California, and the Poston concentration camp, Arizona. After leaving camp, the family moved to Seabrook Farms, New Jersey. Mr. Ikeda attended Drexel University and studied mechanical engineering.

Nisei female. Born November 17, 1930, in Salinas, California. Grew up in Salinas's Japantown community before moving to various towns in California after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Removed to Poston concentration camp, Colorado. Left camp with family for Denver, Colorado, in 1945 before returning to California and establishing the Mandarin Restaurant in San Jose's Japantown.

Nisei female. Born March 25, 1928, in Hilo, Hawaii. Grew up in Hilo, where father worked for a Japanese-language newspaper. Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, father was arrested and detained at the Kilauea Military Camp and Sand Island internment camp. After the war, attended the University of Hawaii, then returned to Hilo in 1950.
