In the late 1940s, Seattle hosted the National Oriental Basketball Tournament with teams competing from Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Illinois and Vancouver, BC. In this photo the Hawaiian team is playing Seattle's Cathay Post at the Seattle University Gymnasium.

The B. Shibayama collection consists of photographs from the personal family collection of Betty Morita Shibayama, who was interviewed by Densho in 2003. The photographs document Betty's life in prewar Hood River, Oregon, her experiences in Minidoka concentration camp, Idaho, and her involvement in the fight for redress for Japanese Latin Americans.

Nisei female. Born March 31, 1927, in Nyssa, Oregon, where parents ran a farm. During World War II, removed to the Portland Assembly Center, Oregon. Instead of going on to a concentration camp, moved with family to a nearby farm labor camp. After the war, eventually returned to Oregon.

Nisei female. Born May 30, 1924, in Hillsboro, Oregon, where parents ran a farm. During World War II, removed to the Portland Assembly Center, Oregon. Instead of going on to an incarceration camp, moved with family to a nearby farm labor camp. After the war, eventually returned to Oregon.
