Incarcerated at the Puyallup Assembly Center, Washington, and Minidoka concentration camp, Idaho. Resettled during World War II in Pocatello, Idaho. Returned to Seattle after World War II.

White female. Daughter of Walt and Milly Woodward, publishers of The Bainbridge Review, which, during World War II, was the sole newspaper on the West Coast to continuously speak out against the mass removal and concentration of Japanese Americans, primarily through Woodward's editorials.

Nisei female. Grew up in West Los Angeles, California, where parents farmed. During World War II, removed to the Manzanar concentration camp, California. Left camp to attend college in Des Moines, Iowa, and eventually settled in Portland, Oregon.

Narrator Mary Schroeder

White female. Born December 4, 1940, in Boulder, Colorado. Senior Circuit Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In Gordon Hirabayashi's 1983 coram nobis case, Judge Schroeder authored the opinion which vacated both Hirabayashi's curfew and exclusion convictions on proof of the allegations of governmental misconduct.

Narrator Mary Matsubara

Nisei female. Born January 3, 1922, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When World War II broke out, the family was living in California. To avoid being sent in a concentration camp, they caravanned along with several other Japanese American families back to Albuquerque, where they remained throughout the war.

Nisei female. Born November 16, 1923, in Portland, Oregon. Grew up in Portland, where parents ran a hotel business.
