The Rosie Maruki Kakuuchi Collection is comprised of photographs from Rosie Maruki and her family's experiences primarily during World War II at the Manzanar concentration camp, California. Materials include snapshots of family members and friends in camp as well as some postwar photos of the family in Los Angeles and immigration documents from Rosie's Issei parents.

This interview is with Isami and Kazuko Nakao, both from Bainbridge Island, Washington. During World War II, they were removed to the Manzanar concentration camp, California, then later transfer to the Minidoka concentration camp, Idaho. They married while at Minidoka, and returned to Bainbridge Island after the war.

Nisei male. Born October 24, 1916, in Bainbridge Island, Washington. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, was removed to Manzanar concentration camp, California. Left camp to work in Chicago before eventually returning to Bainbridge Island. Worked for the Washington State Ferries for forty years until retirement in 2005.
