Nisei male. Born June 2, 1942, in Lima, Peru. Parents had originally immigrated to Peru from Okinawa, Japan. During World War II, removed with family to Crystal City internment camp, Texas. After leaving Crystal City, moved to Kauai, Hawaii. Established a successful career as an architect.
Narrator Arthur Nishimoto
Nisei male. Born August 28, 1923, in Honolulu, Hawaii. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, volunteered for the army and served in Europe with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. After discharge, was called back to active duty and served with the U.S. Counterintelligence Corps in Japan.

Nisei male. Born February 23, 1933, in Tokyo, Japan. Moved with parents to Hawaii at a young age, and grew up in Honolulu, where family held a prominent position in the community. Translation of article: Kazuhisa Abe is appointed as Kohala District Judge. He graduated from the Hilo branch of the University of Michigan. He was appointed by Judge James L. Coke, Chief Justice of the Hawaii Supreme Court. Mr. Abe is the third Japanese American judge after Mr. Okino Tomekichi and Mr. Monde Tamao.

Nisei/Sansei female. Born December 14, 1928, in Stockton, California. Father was Issei and mother was Nisei, born in Hawaii. Grew up in Santa Monica, California. During World War II, moved with family to Colorado to avoid mass removal. Remained in Denver, later operating a grocery store and greenhouse business with husband.

Female. Born August 8, 1925, in Vallejo, California. Due to father's career as a prominent Navy admiral, moved frequently while growing up, living in Hawaii, Cuba, California, China and Japan. Worked as an editor for the military in Washington, D.C., and Japan. While in Japan, met future husband, Lucius Horiuchi.
Narrator Catherine Embree Harris
White female. Born October 30, 1919. Grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, before World War II. After college, took a job with the Office of Indian Affairs, and went to work at the Poston concentration camp, Arizona. After the war, continued to work for the War Relocation Authority and then other agencies.
