Nisei male. Grew up in Los Angeles, California. During World War II, removed to the Granada (Amache) concentration camp, Colorado, with family. Volunteered for the army, and served with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Europe.

Narrator Kazuo Yamane

Nisei male. Born December 8, 1916, in Hawaii. Was already in the army when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Served with the Military Intelligence Service as a translator at the Pentagon and in Europe.

Nisei male. Born January 31, 1918, in Kealakekua, Hawai'i, where his father was a Congregational preacher. During World War II, served with the 100th Battalion in Europe. In the 1950s, was active in Hawai'i's Democratic Party and campaign for statehood.

The A. Shibayama collection is comprised of photographs from the personal family collection of Art Shibayama, a Japanese Peruvian who was interviewed by Densho in 2003. The photos depict Art's life in prewar Peru, as well as his activities in Crystal City internment camp, Texas, and his military service in Europe.

In 1942, married a Japanese American woman and voluntarily joined her and her family in the Manzanar concentration camp, California.
