Midori Kamei was born on July 21, 1923, in Redondo Beach, California. She grew up in North Torrance where her parents farmed. Kamei was imprisoned briefly with her family at the Santa Anita Race Track in California and at the concentration camp at Heart Mountain, Wyoming.
