Washington Hotel (ddr-densho-34-45)
The two-story Washington Hotel (left) was started in about 1900 by Hanjiro Kono and was later operated by Sohichi Shigemura. The Ikuta Barber Shop is behind the community bulletin board along the walkway. Port Blakely is located on the southeast end of Bainbridge Island, Washington.

Shigeko Kitamoto and her children, Jane, Frances and Frank, wait to board a special ferry to Seattle, Washington. Bainbridge Island, Washington was evacuated on March 30, 1942. It was one of the first communities on the West Coast to be evacuated presumably due to its proximity to the Puget Sound Navy Yards.
