October 3, 1942

Today we picked 8 car loads of sugar beets. Across the field we found some niseis, boys up from Manzanar picking sugar beets. Our corn beef and cabbage came out alright. We got home that night at 6:15 from work, cooked, gave our bodies a nice scrubbing over and changed our clothes -- wash dishes, that night we all went to Rupert and saw "It Happened in Flat Bush" with Lloyd Nolan and Overland Deadwood. It sure was self-conscience in the theater. We couldn't find a place to eat so we bought a 50 cent coke and 4 loaves of bread. That's the (food) that night.
