CARDINALS TAKE BRONCOS 5-0 TO NAB LEAGUE LEAD
DOUGHBOYS CLIMB INTO SECOND PLACE WITH 3-1 WIN OVER REJUVENATED HQ NINE
Midway point in the Battalion Softball League finds Charlie Company's high-flying Cardinals sitting on top of the heap with a clean record of three wins and no losses. A glance at the Cardinal log shows that they have yet to be pressed. The powerhouse Cards have won their games by snowing under the Hqtrs crew 20-3, blanked the E Co Rainbows 17-0 and hogtied the A Co Broncos 5-0. An application of simple arithmetic shows the Redbirds have pushed across 42 runs in three games while allowing only 3.
DOUGHBOYS IN HIGH GEAR
Fox Company's Doughboys aren't out of this by a long shot. A Redbird loss will throw the Doughs into a two-way tie for the pennant. A brilliant 3-1 victory over Hq put Doughboy stock in the gilt edge category. Tsuruda bested Atkins of Hdqters in a torrid pitchers' duel.
CARDS WIN 5-0
C Company came through in the 3rd and 7th innings to corral the Broncos 5-0 as Kuyama bested Able Company's Kawakami in another pitchers duel. In the 3rd inning a triple by Kawamura, a walk and a single by Yoshioka brought in two Cardinal scores. Then things got tight as the chuckers bore down. Finally in the last inning, the Cards pushed across three more tallies on a walk, two hits and an error. Hal Uchida was a standout at third base, spearing no less than four sizzling line drives without scratching.

CAGERS WRECK FOR ORD ENGINEERS IN 41-22 RIOT
The MISLS Jayvees defeated the 669th Trucking Co. of Fort Ord in a lopsided 36-8 game. The Ord five, flooring a green squad, couldn't penetrate the MIS zone defense. Nakata hit the hoop for 10 points to cop scoring laurels followed by Taguchi who came through with 8. The preliminary game introduced two newcomers to the team in Larry Matsuo and Bill Yasui who have only recently hung up their baseball spikes for the court game.
In the main event of the evening the MIS varsity took the For Ord 2d Engr. Spec. Brigade by a 41-22 score. Though the Ord team was much improved since their first showing here, the local boys were too much for the Bridadiers. Oye, Presidio Jack-rabbit stole the show with a dazzling exhibition of passing. Fukushima, on the receiving end of most of those passes racked up 17 points to take scoring honors for the Presidio five. Sato and Miyasato followed with 6 points. Tosh Mayeda combined dazzling speed plus deft ball handling to win plaudits for his floor game.

PADDLERS POINT FOR POST PING PONG PAGEANT AT PRESIDIO PALLADIUM
Plans for Operations PP are winding up and the long awaited Post Ping Pong Tournament will open play two weeks hence.
All companies will enter representatives selected either by popular acclaim or by an elimination tournament. Entries from the different companies must be sent to Special Service before the 14 of November.
Top seeded favorites include Capt. Dave (The Man Who Came to Dinner) Woolman, F Company skipper, and Lt. Paul Sakai who are reputed to swing a mean paddle. Nothing has been heard regarding the dog-faces, but it's a good bet that the EM will come out swinging. Last year's title was won by M/Sgt M. Hashiguchi who slapped that celluloid around with plenty of class.
Lt. Hachiya, El Monte's pride and joy will be in charge of this king-size tournament. Companies are urged to enter their men in a hurry. There's more than Company pride at stake ..... The Winnah will be presented with the Earl Finch Trophy.

ON THE ROAD
by Yorozu
Last season the MISLS athletic teams carried the colors of Fort Snelling. Both in baseball and basketball, the MIS teams built an enviable reputation. A terrific string of victories coupled with good clean play drew the admiration of spectators and they were hailed where-ever they went for their truly American Way of playing the game.
In the recent 6th Army Tournament, the MISLS Nino was recognized as the team displaying the best qualities of sportsmanship. Such acclaim has added greatly to the stature of the school.
It is hoped that during the coming basket ball season, MISLS will be able to watch the record made by the ball team.
