PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

With the time of evacuation so near we realize how much our friends, our work, and our daily routine mean to us. The value of all these things magnify a thousand-fold so that we can not help but feel the "welling" of tears in our eyes as we think of leaving all these things and the community in which we live. We are going to leave what we so fondly call "our home". It is not easy to uproot ourselves but we must do so with understanding and without bitterness. The problems that have faced us and will face us will not be easy to solve. The uncertainness of the future may scare us, but let us face it with FAITH -- faith in our government and faith in our God.

I cannot help but feel the immensity of the problem, a problem without precedent in the history of the United States. You know, as well as I, the arguments that have been given both pro and con on the matter of evacuation, especially in the case of American Citizens. We also know of the Minoru Yasui test case as well as the one in Seattle; you knew the stand of the National JACL.

However, evacuation is here and it is our duty to conduct ourselves so well that our stand as a group will be understood in later years as a definite contribution in this war.

So therefore, let us face the future as men and women straightforward and honest with faith in ourselves and our ability to do a job so well that in future years no one can doubt our loyalty to our country -- America.
