Race Suicide in America

Smaller families are the rule in America, and there are many childless homes. If the Nation depended upon the birth rate for the increase of population it would amount to little, for almost as may die as are born. Those who come from other lands make up the increase almost wholly.

It is interesting to contemplate what effect this will have upon the Nation in the future. The foreigners usually have large families of children, and the same may be said as to the colored population. Thus it is apparent that Americans are being transformed, and the Nation will have a vastly different population in time. The so-called lower class of foreigners are the ones with large families, and it is the same as to larger families in this country in most cases. Those who are best prepared to raise children seem to avoid the responsibility, and the population is recruited from the poor and untutored. This may be disastrous to the Nation in the future, yet it must be admitted that many great men are of humble extraction.

President Roosevelt and Mayor Dunne have the right idea. Unless they and a few others can exert a strong influence the country will deteriorate.

There will be no danger from the yellow peril if the race is kept up in the Caucasian nations. Speaking of the virility of the various peoples of the world the Saturday Post says:

"With the exception of the Jews, the Aryan and Semitic races, when civilized, have been weak on this point. The Punic race of Tyre and Carthage is gone; the Saracen of Cairo and Cordova, of Damascus and Bagdad, is gone; the high type of Greek of Greece, the isles and Sicily, is gone; the Roman is gone, and long before these the Chaldean, Assyrian and Egyptian are all gone, but the Chinese is here just as he was when we first heard of him. The life of the Aryan race has been carried on by outlying barbarous tribes, and in no case by the highly civilized. This is our weak point. Race suicide is the name of the danger, and this danger is right on us. The other strong points of the yellow race are secondary to their power in reproduction. The yellow race has a strong point in the selection and preparation of its food. They thus secure a maximum of energy at a minimum of cost." -- Pasadena Star.
