PAUL IS GONE

Apparently the days of the Japanese relocation centers are numbered. We argued against them long, long ago and it is gratifying to note the bigwigs in Washington, D.C., at last coming around to the viewpoint that it is manifestly unfair to bulk together the loyal and disloyal descendants of Nippon.

The Review, however, reserves its opinion on the decentralization process until we have had an opportunity to learn whether it will be done with regard to citizenship rights and whether it will be done fairly and without prejudice or race-hatred.

At the present time we only wish to point out our personal loss of Paul Ohtaki as The Review's staff correspondent with the evacuated Bainbridge group. Paul, like so many other intelligent young nisei, apparently saw the handwriting on the wall and has gone to Chicago, where he and his kind are at present welcome. In wishing him well, we thank him for his faithful reporting of the wanderings of our departed neighbors.

He has done an important job; perhaps more important than he realizes.
