KOBA ELECTED AT MANZANAR

Manzanar, Calif., Thursday, January 28--(delayed)--Robert Koba, Winslow, former leader of the Winslow Baptist Young People's Union, was elected president of the Manzanar Christian Young People's Council here last week.

Mr. Koba was the treasurer of the organization prior to his recent election. He was a former member of the All Island Young People's League.

BACK TO SCHOOL

Thirty-two Island students returned to high school last week after a long extended Christmas vacation. The schools were closed approximately a month due to the recent incident and also to make it possible that many of the buildings could be properly equipped and supplied. Last week, twenty-seven Island children reported for grammar classes.

BITS OF GOSSIP

Yaeko Yamashita's marriage has been announced for Sunday... Tony Koura will be one of those that won't be returning to school this week because he's sitting in the hospital for some skin infection treatment... Bainbridge Yankees and Spartans enter casaba leaugues [leagues]... The lad who used to pay those overdue fees to Mrs. Gideon in Winslow is at it again; Shig Moritani's favorite hideout seems to be at the Manzanar library... Back to high school will go Morio, Yosh, Kayo, Ken, Sat, Tokuo, Kenzo, Junji, Archie and others ... Harry Koba has been elected president of the Block 3 Young People's Club; Toshio Chihara and Iku Amatatsu as vice-presidents; Sachiko Koura and Yoshie Terayama as secretary and treasurer, respectively ... "Magno" Tosh Suyematsu continues to make his check up on the boilers.

ISLANDERS ATTEND MEETING

Scoutmasters Seiji Okazaki and Yoshio Katayama were among the Manzanar scoutmasters represented in a conference held here last week. It was headed by five Caucasian scout leaders from the Los Angeles City Scout Council. Island scouts under Scoutmasters Okazaki and Katayama are: Teddy Kitayama, Billy Takemoto and Takato Takayoshi.
