32 Islanders At Manzanar In Camouflage Jobs

MANZANAR, Calif., Wednesday, July 29--Thirty-two Islanders, including eight girls, are contributing to the nation's war effort by working on the camouflage net project here, it was reported today.

The project, which employs some 600 people from the whole camp, is producing approximately 500 nets per day.

Block three, officially found to all other blocks in the number employed at the project. There are 36 blocks in Manzanar.

Wages for the work are the same as in all other jobs here. The majority of persons have left other desirable jobs to work on the project, but are given special consideration in getting their former jobs back when the project is through.

Those producing an exceptional amount of nets per day will receive $16 per month.

VISITORS LIMITED

A recent change by the Western Defense Command of the Fourth Army prohibits visitors here other than those on business. Passes may be secured by the Manzanar resident whom the visitor wishes to see, and he will notify the administration where the passes will be issued.

ALL IN FUN

Pranksters daubed lipstick on the nose of Harry Koba, Winslow, while he slept. Then, to make things all the more embarrassing, they tucked a half-corked cola bottle full of water under his bed. Kaz Terayama, Winslow, was the object of some kidding, too. Pranksters tried to carry him, sleeping, out to a fire escape, But he awoke in time.
