Sachiko Koura Wins Manzanar Beauty Honors

MANZANAR, Calif, Wednesday, July 8.--Sachiko Koura, 17 years old, Manzanita, won third place in this relocation center's Miss Manzanar beauty queen contest over the Fourth of July.

Miss Koura's rating meant much to Islander's here, for they knew that there are only 247 Bainbridge residents among the 10,000 persons at this camp.

In another feature of the Fourth celebration, two Islanders--Ichiro Nagatani, Island Center and Harry Koba, Winslow--were selected on all-star teams, which met in an exhibition contest. Mr. Nagatani got a single in two trips to the plate before being replaced. Mr. Koba was named reserve catcher but didn't see action.

The sports staff of the Manzanar Free Press selected the all-star teams. Peter Ohtaki, Winslow, is a member of that staff.
