By PAUL OHTAKI

MANZANAR, Calif., Wednesday, June 17--Barred by circumstances from harvesting their own strawberry crops on Bainbridge Island, five Japanese-American Islanders left this relocation center last week to aid in gathering Idaho's sugar beet crop.

Now working in Rupert, Ida., are: Bill Okazaki, Sam Nakao, and Tatsue Moritani, all of Winslow; Kiyo Nagatani, Island Center, and Masao Terashita, Port Madison.

George Hayashi, 21 years old, Manzanita, former University of Washington student, was in the camp hospital this week as the result of a nail infection on his right hand. He was being treated for blood poisoning. He is one of the three Islanders in the camp's fire department. Others are Tike Nishimori, Winslow, and Noboru Koura, Manzanita.

When it comes to softball, the Bainbridge younger fellows are taking care of their Island all right. The Comets, composed entirely of Islanders, are tied for the league lead with a team from San Fernando, Calif.

The team includes Tukuo Chihara, catcher; Kenny Nakata, and Sat Sakuma, pitchers; Isamu Suyematsu, first; Hideaki Nakamura, second; Akira Nakamura, third; John Koba, shortstop; Toshio Suyematsu, left field; Hideo Terashita and Tat Kojima, center field, and P. Tsutomu Ohtaki, right field.
