MOMOICHI NAKATA VISITS EVACUEES; POWERS WELCOME

HUNT, Ida., Wednesday, September 29--Travelling by plane to conserve his short furlough, Corp. Momoichi Nakata, Winslow, visited his friends at Hunt recently. On his leave, the first since he entered the service, he went to Manzanar to see his family, then travelled to Bainbridge for a day. The popular former Island merchant plans to go to Chicago, and then back to Camp Shelby, Miss., where the Japanese-American Combat Unit is training for overseas duty. He is in the communications service.

Bill Powers, who worked at the strawberry cannery in Winslow in 1940 and 1941, is now a member of the administrative staff of this center. Last year he was athletic coast at Filer High School, about thirty miles from here, and recently came here to work for the W.R.A. Many of the evacuees from Bainbridge recognized the genial former Islander, for he was a popular and well-known man at the cannery.
