ISLAND NISEI VISIT HERE

Momoichi ("Pork Chops") Nakata and Art Koura last week earned the distinction of being the first members of the Island's Japanese group to return here since the wholesale evacuation seventeen months ago.

Members of the United States Army, they were permitted to come "home" for brief visits. All other Japanese-Americans and Japanese aliens are barred, under Army order, from entering certain West Coast areas, including the Island.

Corporal Nakata, an early draftee, was here for a few hours Thursday, then took a plane for Boise, Ida., to visit a sister in Caldwell. He was an athletic hero at Bainbridge High School.

Private Koura, only recently accepted as an Army volunteer, spent the weekend at the Arnold Raber home, Manzanita, before reporting for duty, probably with the Japanese-American Combat Unit, now in training in Mississippi.

"It's swell to be back and see our friends," Private Koura said.

HUNT, Ida., Wednesday, September 22--Corp. Masaharu Yamashita arrived last week to attend the funeral of his brother Kazuo, who recently passed away. He has been stationed at Camp Wolters, Texas.

A boy was born recently to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Shimono in the local hospital. Mrs. Shimono is the former Sakae Chihara, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Chihara, Winslow.
