Orators Wanted

Orators are urged to sign up for the oratorical contest, especially in the high school division. To date, 3 speakers have signed up for the high school division contest to be held on Aug. 27, while 9 have signed up for the senior division to be held on the following night.


'Plenty of Food on Hand' Says Pilcher

F.R. Pilcher, assistant project steward, stated that there is plenty of food for everyone although there is plenty of food for everyone although there has been a delay in some of the staple foods.

Uniform meals in all dining halls began Wednesday, Pilcher stated.

"It would help the dining management very much if residents would eat in their own dining halls," Pilcher said.

This will enable the different cooks to keep count of the people in their dining halls and thus make it easier for them to requisition the right amount of food, according to the assistant project steward.


Messages May Be Sent to Japan

Applications for cablegram messages to Japan may be secured in administration building, it was revealed by Harold Jacoby, internal security chief today.

The International Red Cross is rendering this service through its local chapters. All applications are handled through the Klamath Falls unit.

Messages are restricted chiefly to personal or family matters and not more than 25 words in length. The cost, which is paid by the sender, will be from $7.50 to #10.


Workers Receive June Cash Advances

Cash advances were made Friday noon at the farm to enlistees who were employed at farm duties during June.

This morning cash advances are being made to enlistees employed at Public Works division duties during June.

Enlistees employed by the Transportation and Supply division, with the exception of mess hall workers, will be paid Sunday afternoon between 2 and 5 p.m. at #717.

Employees of Employment and Housing division will be paid Monday evening between 7 and 9 p.m. at #717.

All enlistees should bring with them proper identification, preferably their payroll identification badges.

Mess Hall attendants who were employed during June will be paid during the coming week.

Further announcement will appear in THE DISPATCH. Watch for those and be sure you are present to collect your cash advances when your group is to be paid, officials said.


Relief Cases to be Considered

Relief cases will be considered to the welfare division in charge of Harold Jacoby, internal security chief, in the administration building.

The cases considered will deal chiefly with families with no means of income or available funds. In needy cases, those with incomes earned may receive credit as was announced earlier.


Fire Sale at 4119 Today and Sunday

A fire sale will be held at #4119 this afternoon and all day Sunday. All goods will be sold at a fraction of their value.


Lumber Sold at No. 1508

Shop lumber and plywood can now be purchased at the wood shop #1508 it was announced today by D.G. Reid, woodwork instructor. Shop lumber is being sold for six cents a foot and quarter-inch plywood for eight cents per square foot.

If residents wish other types of wood, orders could be placed through McCullun Lumber Company of Tule Lake, Raid added.

Young Buddhists to Meet in 1420

Young Buddhists' Sunday evening service will be held in Hall #1420 with Shizuko Ninomura in charge. The Rev. K. Iwao will deliver the sermon. In charge of the entertainment to follow will be Salem Yagawa. A public address system has been obtained for the benefit of all.


Will Observe: Lantern Fest

Obon service will be held this Sunday at each of the Buddhist service. Obon translated literally means Feast of the Lantern. It is a service in memorial of the ancestral dead.


Ex-Harvard Editor to Address Youth Rally

Caleb Foote, Master of Arts in Economics, will be the guest speaker at the service conducted by the youth, high school, and adult Christian fellowships at the outdoor stage this Sunday evening from 7:30. He attended both Harvard and Columbia Universities and was editor of the Harvard Crimson, the institution's daily paper. At the present time, he is youth secretary of the Fellowship of Reconciliation.

A singspiration period is also slated under the leadership of Sam Takagishi, young people's councilor. Vocal and instrumental selections are also to be featured.

All activities of three fellowships will be diverted towards the first Christian Rally here in Tule Lake. General arrangements and ushering is to be handled by the High School fellowship group, under the direction of Edward Yoshikawa, president of that group. The publicity is in charge of the Youth fellowship organization, with Isaac Igarashi acting as chairman. The adult group has prepared the program, with Wilbur Takeguchi, heading the committee.

Newspaper Supervisor Visits City

Irvin Hull, who will be assistant in charge of Project reports at the new relocation center at Abraham, Utah, arrived in the City for a two-day visit Thursday.

Hull will supervise the center newspaper at Abraham, which will be comprised of 10,000 residents. In all probability, Tanforan assembly center residents will be moved to the Utah WRA center, Hull said.

Before taking up his duties at Utah on Sept. 10, Hull will go to Idaho on Monday to supervise the formation of a newspaper at the Minidoka center. Camp Harmony residents at Puyallup, Washington, have already started their trek to the Idaho WRA center which will be their home for the duration.

Hull was formerly with the NYA. He was also director of education for Radio station KSL at Salt Lake City. He is a PhD.


Block 54 Quarantined

Block 54 was quarantined for chicken pox starting Wednesday.

This quarantine includes only children under 16 years of age.

Other blocks which have been quarantined are #68 and #69.

Quarantines are lifted three weeks after the last case is reported.

A SIGNIFICANT EVENT
...for tomorrow, about 25 members of the Alturas Rotary Club will be guests of the Administrative staff. The guests will be taken on a tour of the project, visit the project farm and complete the day with a dinner at the Personnel dining hall.

EMPLOYERS PARADISE
...will be the theme of a dance to be sponsored by the Placement Bureau. Slated for Aug. 27, invitations in the form of work assignment slips have been sent out to 150 people.

Jean Mori and Tsu Fujimoto are general chairmen for the affair. Chaperones for the evening include the Messrs and Mesdames Frank Fagan, Frank Smith, Elmer Shirrell, Don Elberson and H. L. Clark.

DELIGHTFUL DESCRIBES IT:
...the Puget Sounders' Social which was held Wednesday evening at #720. Residents from Bellingham, Bellevue and Bothell staged the dance affair. Committee in charge were Isamu Kunimatsu and Aubrey Funai.

The Messrs and Mesdames Hiram Akita, Tsukasa Okamoto, Nobi Yamada and Toki Horotaka were chaperones for the evening.

...is Mr. John D. Cook. He left Friday morning to confer with Mr. Edwin Bates, Chief of Information. Expecting to be back by Sunday evening. Mr. Cook will bring back with him one of four cars which are to be added to the service here.

...was the dance party sponsored by the Oregonian baseball team Thursday evening.

Shoe Repair Shop Opens

A permanent shoe repair shop was opened yesterday in #7207-E by the community enterprise's management. Smoked shoes in the Canteen #3 fire will be cleaned and repolished in the new shop. Radio repair shop will also be housed in #7207-E.

New canteen #3 will open in about a week, Kendall Smith said.

3 New Leagues Open

25 TEAMS ENTERED
Some twenty five teams in three divisions started a new season this week.

Class A tens will oppose each other on Friday evenings. Junior division will go through their schedule on Thursday nights and the diminutive Pee Wees will play on Wednesday afternoons.

Although most of the entries in the "A" loop are of unknown calibre, Tacoma Truckers, Pinedale titlists, will be favored to go through most of their games undefeated.

In the Junior bracket two teams have been elevated from the former Pee Wee classification to match their skill against the older lads. They are the Rattlers and the 8 Balls, champs and runners up respectively.

Entries:
Class A -- Tacoma Truckers, Santa Clara Broncos, Auburn Jrs., Block 33, Butte, Lincoln.

Juniors: Calif. Grizzlies Seattle, Whistling Losers Marysville Indians, Marysville Juniors, White River, Kent, 8 Balls and Rattlers.

Pee Wee: Golden Eagles, Dragons, Marysville Poison Ivy, Tule Lake Mosquitos, Rattlers Jrs., Tacoma Rangers, 8 Ball Jrs. Golden Gophers.


Kite Day Sunday

Kites will dot the sky tomorrow afternoon when a gigantic Kite Day will be held in front of the Recreation Center from 2 p.m.

Competing in the general event will be teenaged experts along with those who used to fly kites in their younger years. Fairer sex will also be vying for top honors.

According to Wilbur Takiguchi and Frank Kijikata, co-chairmen, other events such as fighting, miniature and unique are open to all contestants.


Western Results

Lopsided scores featured the Western League games last week.

Fighting Teens outslugged the Furies, 13-1. Hit and Runs ran on a rampage again as they smothered the Marysville 1's 17-0. Fighting Recs again came on the short end of a 26-3 score against Peps.


Oakpark Meets Placer Sunday

Outstanding hardball contests slated for Sunday are Oak Park against Placer and West Sac'to AC versus Holland. Oak Park, who tied the highly touted Riverside nine last week will be a slight favorite over the Placerans.

Oft-beaten Imais, who last three games in a row, will try to break into the win column at the expense of the Red Lions. All-Stars and Royal Flushes meet in the 3 p.m. game.
