Disloyal Japs To Be Parted From Loyal

WASHINGTON, July 7. -- (UP) -- The War Relocation authority is now separating loyal and disloyal Japanese evacuees to permit adequate treatment of both groups, War Mobilization Director James F. Byrnes reported tonight.

Byrnes issued the report -- prepared at President Roosevelt's request by the W.R.A. and the War Department -- in response to a Senate resolution requesting it, submitted by Senator Sheridan Downey, Democrat, California. Treatment of Japanese in relocation camps had become the subject of controversial congressional debate and has been under investigation by the Dies committee.

"The War Relocation Authority," Byrnes said, "is now undertaking to segregate those evacuees whose loyalties lie with Japan. The segregated group will be quartered in a center by themselves and will not be eligible for leave."

The other people, however, will continue to be eligible for leave and will be encouraged by the W.R.A. to take useful employment in normal communities outside the evacuated area."
